A Parent Carer is someone who cares for a member of their family who is under 18 and has additional needs, a disability or a long-term illness. Parent carers will be dealing with very different services and challenges to adult carers; including education, SEND, CAMHS and paediatric services.

Parent carers are entitled to a Parent Carers Needs Assessment to find out what help they need and how these needs can be met. The assessment looks at the parent’s wellbeing, whether it is appropriate for them to provide or continue to provide care for their child, and the need to safeguard and promote the welfare of the child cared for, and any other child they have.

Coventry Family Hubs

Coventry Families offers a ‘one stop’ digital hub for parents and families, providing easy access to support whenever needed, and provides a range of information and resources
tailored specifically for you and your family’s needs.

Family Information Service

Coventry City Council provide support to parents-to-be, parents, carers and grandparents through their Family Information Service including one-to-one support and online courses.

Children and families centres

Children and family centres deliver a range of support for Children and Families offering face-to-face contact or virtual meetings to suit families' needs.

Young Minds

Young Minds supports parents with practical advice and tips on supporting your child - from how to encourage your child to open up about their feelings to dealing with mental health services. You can call for free on 0808 802 5544 from 9:30 am-4 pm, Monday-Friday.
