New rise in Carer’s Allowance earnings limit to increase earning potential for carers in Coventry on a low income.

• The earnings limit on Carer’s Allowance, the main carers’ benefit, will go up from £152 per week to £196 per week from 7 April.
• Thousands more carers juggling work and care can also access Carer’s Allowance for the first time due to the earnings limit increase
• Carer’s Allowance itself remains the lowest benefit of its kind
• Proposed changes to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) entitlement rules will also see 150,000 lose their Carer’s Allowance by 2029/30.

Unpaid carers in employment in Coventry will benefit from a significant rise in the earnings limit on Carer’s Allowance, allowing carers to earn up to £2,340 more each year.

From 7 April 2025, working carers can earn up to £196 per week after certain deductions – the equivalent of 16 hours at the National Living Wage – and continue to claim Carer’s Allowance. This is an increase of £45 compared to the previous earnings limit of £151.

Carer’s Allowance, the main benefit for carers, is available if you spend at least 35 hours a week looking after someone who is disabled, ill or elderly. There are 5939 carers receiving Carer’s Allowance in Coventry.
