The Young Carers (YC) team in Coventry believe all young people should be given the opportunity to reach their full potential in all areas of life.
Through appropriate support, and a regular presence within the community, Young Carers Development Officers aim to raise awareness, identify hidden/existing YCs and aim to reduce the impact of caring responsibilities on young people.
The work the Young Carers Development Officer delivers in the community will help YCs in different ways;
The Development Officer will continue to work with schools across Coventry in implementing the (FREE) National Young Carers in Schools (YCiS) Award Programme, by offering Train the Trainer sessions and developing YC Leads in some schools who will take the lead on delivering the programme by sharing their best practice with other schools. This will include regular virtual catch-ups and progress meetings.
The programme is designed to enable schools to effectively provide a high standard of support for YCs in their schools, increase educational attainment, attendance and implement provisions to better support YCs.
Schools can go on to achieve Bronze - where they have basic provisions in place, Silver – where schools are going beyond the basics and up to Gold - where schools are awarded for their best practice in supporting young carers.
